The Midwest Renewable Energy ethanol plant near Sutherland is halting production for several weeks, citing a surplus of ethanol with falling demand.
About 20 employees will be out of work until production resumes.
General Manager Troy Gavin tells North Platte television station KNOP-TV (http://bit.ly/AAhda5) that the decision to shut down was based on a lack of profit. He says many plants across the country are also temporarily shutting down.
