Kureha Corp.'s new specialty plastics plant in the Kanawha Valley is officially open.

Media outlets report that Kureha officials and state and local dignitaries held an opening ceremony for the $150 million plant Monday. Commercial production began in August.

The plant is located on DuPont's property in Belle. It will produce polyglycolic acid, or PGA. The biodegradable plastic is used to produce plastic soft bottles and containers.

Thirty-five full time workers have been hired. The workforce is expected to expand to about 50 people when the plant begins full production.
