Fertilizer Group Spent $377,861 Lobbying in 2Q

The main trade group for the fertilizer industry spent $377,861 lobbying the federal government in the second quarter, according to a disclosure form.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The main trade group for the fertilizer industry spent $377,861 lobbying the federal government in the second quarter, according to a disclosure form.

That's less than the $430,700 it spent in the second quarter of 2010, but it's slightly more than the $367,110 the group spent during the previous quarter.

The Fertilizer Institute, which represents more than 175 producers, importers and retailers, lobbied Congress on the environmental cleanup of Chesapeake Bay and a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency measure that would set limits on nutrient runoff pollution in Florida, according to a July 20 filing with the House clerk's office.

The group also lobbied the Department of Homeland Security about oversight of U.S. chemical makers.

The institute's members include such companies as CF Industries Holdings Inc. and Terra Industries Inc.
