Wind turbine component maker American Superconductor Corp. said Monday it is now doing business as AMSC.

The company said the name change reflects changes in its business that have made it more diversified.

The company in September said it is reorganizing its business on the end markets for its products instead of its technologies. Its new units are Windtec Solutions, which helps companies design wind turbines and provides support services, power electronics and controls; and Gridtec Solutions, which provides engineering and planning services and grid systems.

AMSC reported its fiscal 2010 and first-quarter results in late September. It took a large loss after losing its largest customer, Sinovel Wind Group of China. The company also said it expects a loss in the second quarter, but reported close to $100 million in new contracts and said the worst was behind it.

Shares of AMSC fell 8 cents to $4.20 in morning trading.
