Worker Dead in Gas Line Mishap

A DTE Energy Co. employee responding to a gas leak in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe Farms has been killed.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich (AP) — A DTE Energy Co. employee responding to a gas leak in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe Farms has been killed.

Department of Public Safety officials say in a statement that 50-year-old Thomas Issac was found Tuesday slumped over in a 5-foot hole with gas rapidly escaping from a ruptured pipe.

Police say another employee who was at the scene of the leak called 911 at 12:43 p.m. and told authorities that his partner was unconscious in a hole and a gas line had ruptured.

Medics pulled Issac from the hole and transported him to a hospital, where the 20-year DTE employee was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said Issac responded to a reported gas leak and was placing a flow seal clamp over the hole in the line when it ruptured.
