Fire Erupts at Iranian Petrochemical Complex

Iran's semiofficial Mehr news agency says a fire broke out at the country's biggest petrochemical facility but was quickly extinguished.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's semiofficial Mehr news agency says a fire broke out at the country's biggest petrochemical facility but was quickly extinguished.

Mehr says there were no casualties or serious damages from the fire at the Imam Khomeini Petrochemical Complex in southwestern Iran.

The complex produces oil byproducts including fuel. It is the biggest petrochemical production complex in Iran.

The agency's Sunday report didn't provide any details on the reason behind the fire.

Iran's oil and gas sector has been hit by an increasing number of attacks in recent years including simultaneous blasts at three gas pipelines near Qom last year.

Iranian officials said the blasts were not caused by technical failures but did not say whether they believed it was sabotage.
