KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Machinists at Honeywell's Kansas City plant are on strike after rejecting a contract offer Sunday.

About 840 members of Machinists Local Lodge 778 are idled by the strike.

The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/qxHVyr) that union representative Steve Nickel says the union plans to file charges with the National Labor Relations Board, which is closed Monday for a federal holiday.

Honeywell spokeswoman Linda Cook says the company believes it has bargained in good faith. Neither Nickel or Cook would discuss specifics of the contract offer.

Nickel says 79 percent of the members rejected Honeywell's offer and 85 percent voted to strike.

Honeywell operates the federal plant that makes non-nuclear components for nuclear weapons. It has about 2,800 employees, most of whom are not represented by a union.
