DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency says an Iowa company has agreed to pay an $11,000 penalty and to replace a hazardous solvent to settle a series of hazardous waste violations.
The EPA says Tuesday that Brand FX Body Company of Pocahontas has agreed to spend nearly $62,000 on a project to replace the chemical acetone with a non-hazardous product. The company makes fiberglass bodies for utility trucks. It was inspected by the EPA in 2010 and cited for several violations of hazardous waste regulations.
The EPA says by agreeing to the settlement, the company has certified that its Pocahontas operation is now in compliance with the regulations.
