BALTIMORE (AP) — A New York-based company wants a waiver of a state-imposed deadline to begin work within the next month on a disputed trash-burning power plant in south Baltimore.
Energy Answers Baltimore had announced more than a year ago it was ready to start building the $1 billion project.
But The Baltimore Sun reports (http://bsun.md/A7p01q) that the company is asking Maryland's Public Service Commission to defer the panel's requirement that the company start construction by Feb. 5 at a now-shuttered FMC chemical plant in Fairfield.
Company officials say they haven't yet lined up enough purchasers of the plant's power or suppliers of waste to burn to get the financing they need for the project.
They also say they haven't completed a study showing the facility will meet air pollution limits.
