BERLIN, N.H. (AP) — A fire at a hydroelectric power plant in Berlin has caused some power outages in the city in New Hampshire's North Country.
The Berlin Fire Department responded to a fire at about 10:15 a.m. at the Smith Hydro plant on the Androscoggin River.
The plant is owned and operated by Public Service of New Hampshire. Utility spokesman Mike Skelton says the fire happened in the electronic switch gear inside the station. He says it is an unmanned facility.
Skelton says PSNH is working to route power to Berlin residents from another source.
The Smith plant is one of nine hydroelectric stations owned by PSNH. It was built in 1948.
