Software company Autodesk Inc. said Thursday it will pay $39 million in cash for simulation software company Blue Ridge Numerics.
The deal is expected to close by April 30.
Autodesk focuses on three-dimensional design, engineering and entertainment software. The company said the addition of Charlottesville, Va.-based Blue Ridge will give Autodesk computational capabilities that will help automate fluid flow and thermal simulation for designs.
Autodesk said the deal will dilute its fiscal first-quarter per-share profit by a penny, and between 2 cents and 3 cents for the full 2012 fiscal year.
Autodesk shares fell 68 cents to $43.16 in midday trading.
