Porvair prepares to launch microplate solutions

Porvair Sciences, a supplier of solutions for life-science and drug-discovery tasks, will attend a series of upcoming events to launch its 2010-11 Microplate Catalogue and several products.

Porvair Sciences, a supplier of solutions for life-science and drug-discovery tasks, will attend a series of upcoming events to launch its 2010-11 Microplate Catalogue and several products.

According to Steve Knight, marketing manager, the company plans to attend Scantec, Miptec, HET, Elrig, Biotechnica and Analytica China.

Porvair Sciences will showcase the Miniseal Plus, its latest entry-level semi-automated thermal sealer developed for laboratories sealing small-to-medium batches of microplates.

The device is capable of producing an accurate and tight seal on any SBS-proposed-standard, deep-well or PCR microplate measuring between 3mm and 62mm in height.

The company's 96-well, 384-well and new robot-compatible Ultravap sample concentrators are suitable for laboratories looking to remove the traditional drug-discovery 'bottleneck' of solvent evaporation in microplates prior to analysis or reconstitution in buffer.

Increases in sample throughput are achieved with the Ultravap through advanced evaporator head technology and a manifold design, which directly injects heated nitrogen into each individual well of the microplate simultaneously.

The system is said to remove stubborn solvents in just minutes.

For heat-sensitive and thermally labile samples, the Ultravap may be operated in a two-stage mode combining rapid initial dry-down with carefully controlled final solvent evaporation.

For storage scenarios where chemical resistance and thermal stability is vital, Porvair Sciences' new Glass Vial Storage Plate offers 96 high-quality glass vials in a 45mm high storage block, making it ideal for UHPLC and combinatorial chemistry applications.
