The University of Maine's wood composites center is receiving a $3 million grant to advance its offshore wind-power research and development.

Members of Maine's congressional delegation say the Economic Development Administration grant will help pay for the installation of specialized robotic manufacturing equipment. The laboratory will focus on developing offshore, deep-water wind blades made from recyclable materials.

The federal Department of Energy says it will support efforts to develop and test the offshore wind technologies being advanced at UMaine to harness vast wind resources offshore.
