The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium will keep its corporate name for another decade in an extension of a partnership that began in 2001.

PPG paid the zoo $7 million in a 10-year naming rights deal that runs through the end of the year. PPG Industries Foundation is the philanthropic arm of PPG Industries Inc., which makes paints, coatings and a number of specialty products, such as lenses for glasses.

The new deal, announced Tuesday, includes $6.9 million more to extend the deal another 10 years.

The money will be used for expansion projects, including an Animal Health and Education Center to open next year, and a new habitat for reptiles and mixed-species animals. The deal also includes $50,000 annually to establish the PPG Conservation and Sustainability Fund dedicated to the zoo's animal conservation efforts in other parts of the world.

Zoo president and chief executive Barbara Baker says PPG will also continue giving technical advice and materials to reduce window glare in some exhibits.
