PRAGUE (Reuters) - The Czech carbon registry will delay its reopening until next week after being closed for more than a month to improve security in response to thefts of permits, the registry's chief said on Monday.

Czech market operator OTE had planned to reopen on February 25 but a delay in ensuring that new security precautions are in place will prevent this, the registry's director Jiri Stastny told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Several carbon dioxide (CO2) registries in the European Union were targeted by cyber attacks in recent weeks, with reported thefts of around 3.3 million CO2 permits.
