As New Yorkers well know, when extreme weather events disrupt the transportation infrastructure, the vital economic and social networks of a city are impacted, and the means to escape the consequences of such an event are compromised. A panel discussion - among climate experts, transit officials, and representatives of city government - at the New York Academy of Sciences will address the New York City experience in building transportation system resilience given the overarching context of severe weather and climate events and their impacts.
On March 2, 2011, the Greening Transportation and Infrastructure Discussion Group of the New York Academy of Sciences will present "Facing the Elements: Transportation System Resilience in an Era of Extreme Weather and Climate Change."
