New Mexico MEP Gets Federal Grant

Commerce Dept. awarded?$340,000 to?New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership to help?businesses acquire advanced manufacturing capabilities.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded a $340,000 grant to the New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership to help small- and medium-size businesses acquire advanced manufacturing capabilities to become more competitive.

The partnership was reauthorized under the America Competes Act, which was recently signed into law.

The funding was announced by Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman.

He says that in today's economic climate, it's important to continue to invest in initiatives that create jobs.

Bingaman says the grant supports a public-private partnership that has saved and created jobs in New Mexico.
