GENKAI, Japan (Reuters) - The mayor of a southern Japanese town near the Genkai nuclear plant said he remained wary about restarting two reactors shut for maintenance, possibly delaying a move that Tokyo hopes would mark a breakthrough in bringing reactors back on line and easing a power crunch.

Toshiyuki Sakai, mayor of Karatsu, told Reuters residents needed more assurances on nuclear safety even as his counterpart in neighboring Genkai, which hosts the plant, said he could give his consent to reactor restarts as soon as next week.
