U.S. Steel Spent $800,000 on Lobbying Efforts

United States Steel Corp. spent $800,000 in the second quarter to lobby Congress and federal agencies on issues ranging from infrastructure to tax reform.

WASHINGTON (AP) — United States Steel Corp. spent $800,000 in the second quarter to lobby Congress and federal agencies on issues ranging from infrastructure to tax reform, according to a recent disclosure report.

The total compared with $1.04 million that U.S. Steel spent in the second quarter of 2010 and $820,000 it spent in the first quarter.

From April through June, the steel manufacturer addressed a number of topics, including infrastructure, health care, mine worker safety and energy and tax-related issues.

It also lobbied on the implementation and enforcement of U.S. trade laws, transportation and the impact that anti-terrorism security proposals for chemical facilities would have on the steel industry.

U.S. Steel lobbied the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of Management and Budget, according to a July 13 report filed at the House clerk's office.
