HOUSTON (Reuters) - The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management was investigating reports of an oil sheen in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico 100 miles south off the Louisiana coast, a bureau spokeswoman said on Thursday.

"(The agency) is working with area operators to determine if the sheen is associated with any permanently abandoned wells in the area," said bureau spokeswoman Caryl Fagot.

The light sheen was reported in the Green Canyon area of the U.S.-regulated waters of the Gulf.
