Boeing to Showcase Technology, Partnerships at Space and Missile Defense Conference
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 12, 2010 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] will highlight its commitment to customers and its partnerships with Alabamaβs aerospace industry during the 13th annual Space and Missile Defense Conference and Exhibition in Huntsville, Aug. 16-19.
βThis conference is an outstanding opportunity for us to listen to our Missile Defense Agency [MDA] and other customers, and to demonstrate our focus on being the best industry partner we can be,β said Greg Hyslop, vice president and general manager of Boeing Strategic Missile & Defense Systems. βWe are proud of the position we hold in missile defense for the United States and its allies, and of the role we play in the Huntsville community.β
One of the efforts that Boeing will highlight at the conference is the recently announced Boeing and Northrop Grumman team that is pursuing the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract.
βThe Boeing-Northrop Grumman GMD team offers our MDA customer the most experienced and responsive industry partner that is ready to adapt GMD to future needs and requirements, with the lowest risk, from Day One of the new contract -- there is no learning curve with this team,β Hyslop said. βThis yearβs event enables us to highlight our teamβs unique GMD capabilities to a wide range of customers and to talk about other Strategic Missile & Defense Systems programs and technology efforts.β
In addition to the GMD program, Boeing also plans to showcase a number of breakthrough missile-defense and directed-energy programs, including the Airborne Laser Test Bed, which earlier this year achieved the first ever shootdown of a ballistic missile target in its boost phase; the Free Electron Laser program for the U.S. Navy; and the U.S. Army High Energy Laser Technology Demonstrator program.
Boeing is the largest aerospace company in Alabama and one of the state's largest employers. Current company operations in Huntsville include the Ground-based Midcourse Defense program and other missile defense work, such as the Arrow system and the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 seeker, as well as work associated with Ares I, the International Space Station, Army Integrated Logistics, Brigade Combat Team Modernization, SBInet, and engineering for the 787 and the P-8A Poseidon.
