GT Solar International Inc., which makes parts for solar-energy equipment, said Tuesday that it received orders from two new customers in Asia for polysilicon production equipment worth $81.7 million.

The news sent GT Solar shares up 89 cents, or 5.5 percent, to $17.07 in afternoon trading.

The orders include hydrochlorination equipment and other polysilicon production equipment. The orders will be included in GT Solar's backlog for its fiscal first quarter, which ended July 2, the company said.

Products from GT Solar, based in Merrimack, N.H., are used in making solar energy equipment and light-emitting diodes, or LEDs.
