TOKYO (Reuters) - Mitsui & Co is likely to build large solar power plants with a total capacity of 100 megawatts in northeast Japan's Tohoku region, which faces possible power shortages after a March quake and tsunami damaged several power plants, the Yomiuri newspaper said in its evening edition on Wednesday.

Mitsui, Japan's second-biggest general trading firm, has started negotiations with regional governments and Tohoku Electric Power Co, to which it plans to sell electricity, with the aim of starting construction by March 2012, the newspaper said.
