The South Dakota Corn Growers and a Sioux Falls law firm will hold a public meeting Tuesday night for area corn farmers who received letters from bankrupt ethanol producer VeraSun Energy Corp. asking for some money back.

The Aug. 20 letters were sent to farmers paid by VeraSun in the 90 days before it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008. The settlement offer good through Sept. 30 requests an 80 percent repayment of what VeraSun paid them for their corn.

The meeting is planned for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in downtown Sioux Falls.

Attorneys from Meierhenry Sargent LLP will be on hand to answer questions.
