CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Federal authorities have proposed more than $257,000 in fines against two New Hampshire companies following an explosion.
It happened on Jan. 23 when workers for S.L. Chasse Welding & Fabrication Inc. of Hudson were installing a new motor on a manufacturing vessel at Worthern Industries Inc. of Nashua.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration office says flammable vapors ignited and a number of people were taken to the hospital with injuries. OSHA found that Worthen had not cleaned or vented the vessel enough. It also cited Worthern on other penalties.
OSHA said Chasse was cited for inadequately training its workers to recognize potential chemical, fire and explosion hazards.
The companies have 15 business days to respond.
