Think Global Set On Indiana For Electric Car Plant

Norwegian-based electric car maker Think Global says it remains committed to opening a factory in Elkhart, although it's still waiting on a decision about a federal loan it has sought.

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) -- Officials of a northern Indiana city have asked that the "For Lease" sign be taken down from the property where a company announced six months ago that it planned to start making electric cars.

Norwegian-based Think Global says it remains committed to opening a factory in Elkhart, although it's still waiting on a decision about a federal loan it has sought.

Company spokesman Brendan Prebo says it is negotiating a lease for the former recreational vehicle pars factory and still plans to start production in 2011.

City economic development director Barkley Garrett says the company has provided regular updates on its progress and that all signs continue to be positive.

Think Global currently makes its compact, two-door electric passenger cars at a plant in Finland.
