Canasia Power Corp. announced Tuesday it plans to establish a solar module manufacturing facility in the London, Ont., area that is expected to provide 500 jobs when it reaches full capacity.

The manufacturing plant, to be operated by Canasia's wholly-owned subsidiary, Canasia Solar Corp., will initially have a 50 megawatts per annum capacity and will expand to a total build-out of 200 megawatts, Canasia said in a news release.

The initial 50-megawatt facility will create over 100 jobs in southern Ontario region, a number that is expected to grow to over 500 jobs when it reaches full capacity.

It plans to export the majority of its production to international markets, particularly India and the Middle East.

Canasia, a Canadian company with offices in Toronto, said it has had "expressions of interest" — both letters of support and memorandums of understanding — for over 750 megawatts of solar energy development from India and Saudi Arabia.
