The main trade group for the fertilizer industry spent $430,700 lobbying the federal government in the second quarter, according to a disclosure form.
That's more than the $303,000 it spent in the first quarter of 2010.
The Fertilizer Institute, which represents more than 175 producers, importers and retailers, lobbied Congress on bills related environmental cleanup in Chesapeake Bay and other bills that would address shipping hazardous material and chemical safety standards, according to a July 20 filing with the House clerk's office.
The institute's members include such companies as CF Industries Holdings Inc. and Terra Industries Inc.
