A spokesman for the company converting the former TrentonWorks plant in Nova Scotia to manufacture wind turbine components says the search for employees is still in its early stages.

Brad Murray of DSME Trenton Ltd. says 15 people are working at the plant so far and the company is currently in the process of hiring more shop workers, millwrights and electricians.

Murray says an ad has also been posted for a health and safety manager.

He says more staff could be in the plant by next month and they will be posting more ads for workers.

Murray says work on converting the plant continues with old fixtures and equipment being removed so new gear can be installed, although production will not likely begin until the second quarter of next year.

About 120 staff are expected to be hired within the plant's first year and up to 500 could be employed within three years.

Nova Scotia announced in March it was putting $60 million into the $90-million operation.
