MIAMI (Reuters) - A tropical depression formed over the central Atlantic Ocean on Saturday, and the U.S. National Hurricane Center said it could become a tropical storm by Saturday night or Sunday and a hurricane by Monday.
The system was 580 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands and was moving west-northwest with maximum sustained winds of 30 miles an hour, the Miami-based center said.
The center said most of the computer models showed it turning toward the northwest in about three days.
