Three Atlantic storms on watch, Gulf of Mexico safe

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. National Hurricane Center was monitoring three tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean on Friday, and computer models still showed all three steering clear of key oil and gas producing areas in the Gulf of Mexico.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. National Hurricane Center was monitoring three tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean on Friday, and computer models still showed all three steering clear of key oil and gas producing areas in the Gulf of Mexico.

In its latest advisory, NHC said a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic still had a high, or 70 percent, chance of developing into Tropical Depression Eight during the next couple of days, up from about 60 percent earlier.

NHC said environmental conditions remain favorable for the system, located about 200 miles south of the southernmost Cape Verde Island, to strengthen as it moved west across the Atlantic at 15 miles per hour.
