The Environmental Protection Agency is making public data on the release and transfer of nearly 650 chemicals at 21,000 locations across the country during last year.

EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson said Wednesday in a statement that it was vital that communities have access to the information that affects health and the environment.

The Toxics Release Inventory data can be viewed, by ZIP code, at http://www.epa.gov/tri

Industries such as manufacturing, metal mining, electric utilities and commercial hazardous waste treatment facilities are required to report their data by July 1 of each year.

Some reports are still being processed and the data will be updated in August and September, EPA said.
