A Japanese company expects to finish building a $100 million specialty plastics factory in Belle by the end of the month.

Manager Tom Provost says the Kureha Corp. factory should start production in November.

Kureha has hired 35 people to work there already and expects to have a total of 50 employees once the operation is up and running.

The plant will produce a high-performance polymer resin called polyglycolic acid. One of the raw materials used to manufacture it is made by DuPont at its plant in Belle. Kureha expects to produce about 4,000 tons of the chemical annually in Belle.

Work on the plant started in 2008.
