Sanyo said it returned to profit for the fiscal first quarter as its mainstay solar battery operations and cost-cutting are benefitting the bottom line.

TOKYO—Sanyo Electric Co. said Wednesday that it returned to a net profit in its fiscal first quarter and revised upward its profit outlook, showing strength in its solar-battery operations and the benefits of cost-cutting.
