Union Rejects Oshkosh Contract

Workers?have rejected a contract extension that offers a 3.5 percent raise, a $750 signing bonus and no increases in health or dental premiums.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- Union workers at Oshkosh Corp. have rejected a contract extension that offers a 3.5 percent raise.

The company's one-year extension offer also includes a $750 signing bonus and no increases in health or dental premiums. In a statement, Oshkosh Corp. calls the offer a "very good overall package, especially in today's economy."

United Auto Workers Local 578 President Perry Graves says the members' vote Sunday was not about the economic merit of the package, but rather concerns about how employees are treated. Graves says those concerns include family and medical leave, how grievances are handled and other workplace issues.

The Oshkosh Northwestern says Local 578 has 2,750 members.
