Intel plans to buy Infineon Technologies' wireless semiconductor business for $1.4 billion in cash, a move that would expand the chipmaker's offerings in the red-hot smartphone market while also gaining a customer base that includes every major mobile phone maker. Intel and Infineon announced the purchase agreement Monday. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.
