The Procter & Gamble Co., maker of Old Spice, Tampax and Iams products, spent nearly $1.08 million in the second quarter to lobby the federal government on food safety, foreign trade and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

That's less than the almost $1.28 million it spent in the same period last year but slightly more than the $1.05 million it spent in the first quarter of 2010.

The consumer products maker also lobbied on deferral of taxes of foreign income, trade Russia, U.S. policies in various areas including Latin America and other issues.

Besides Congress, the company lobbied the U.S. Treasury, the Executive Office of the President, among other agencies, from April through June, according to the report filed July 20 with the House clerk's office.
