Bendix/King by Honeywell KFD 840 Costs Less than $12,000

EAA AIRVENTURE, OSHKOSH, Wis., July 26, 2010 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that its Bendix/King by Honeywell KFD 840 Primary Flight Display (PFD) has received certification for its new flight director functionality and improved graphics, while expanding the number of eligible piston-powered aircraft to more than 100,000.

“The flight director capability increases the number of aircraft that can benefit from the KFD 840’s large digital display and enhanced situational awareness,” said Roger Dykmann, director, General Aviation, Honeywell Aerospace.  “The KFD 840 was specifically designed for ease of use.  Its wide horizon and large format reduces pilot workload and makes flying easier.”

Honeywell’s KFD 840 is an 8.4-inch display that integrates easy-to-read vertical tapes with vertical rolling digits for altitude, airspeed, and an edge-to-edge artificial horizon.  The single-box display replaces up to six primary instruments: attitude, airspeed, altimeter, turn and bank, vertical speed and horizontal situation indicators (HSI).

“Using Honeywell proprietary technology, the display of graphics on the KFD 840 is now more crisp and smooth, displaying what is still the largest horizon available in general aviation,” Dykmann added.

The KFD 840 utilizes a Micro Electro-Mechanical (MEMS)-based Air Data Attitude and Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) that provides reliable, high precision data to the system.

Honeywell has received Technical Standard Order (TSO), European Aviation Safety Agency TSO (ETSO) and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its flight direction function on the KFD 840.  The new STC greatly expands the Approved Model List (AML) to include most single- and twin-engine piston aircraft.

The KFD 840 is available through the Bendix/King by Honeywell authorized service center network.  More information is available at www.bendixking.com/apexedgeseries.
