An adequate energy supply in the United States is vital to ensure industrial growth. On December 19, 2007, President Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), which will go into effect in December of 2010. This wide-ranging law covers many items to promote sustainable energy supplies and energy efficiency. Part of the EISA addresses raising the efficiency levels of industrial electric motors. As mandated by the EISA, the efficiency of 1- to 200-HP electric motors (currently regulated by the Energy Policy Act of 1992) will graduate to NEMA Premium® efficiency levels.
