The Apple Insider reported on Thursday that Apple is working on new technologies that would make touch-screen devices like the iPhone easy to use and read in unstable industrial applications.
The company filed a patent last week that discusses new motion compensation features, and specifically mentions a scenario in which the device could be used in a processing plant environment.
“The screen may be part of a system used in a high-vibration environment, such as a tank monitoring and control system for a chemical processing plant.”
Airplane entertainment systems were also noted as a possible application for the technology.
This patent expands on earlier filings for a front-facing video camera that would adjust itself while moving. By detecting “signatures of motion,” the iPhone software would enlarge areas on the screen to make them easier to touch and see.
