MEXICO CITY (AP) -- A Ford auto assembly plant in Mexico is back on line after a two-year, $1 billion remodeling to make more fuel-efficient cars.
The facility in Mexico City\'s northern metro area formerly produced gas-guzzling F-series pickups. It has now been retooled for the smaller Fiesta, which gets about 40 mpg.
Ford says it expects to make 180,000 Fiestas there this year.
President Felipe Calderon inaugurated the transformed Cuautitlan plant Tuesday. He commended Ford for creating new business and at least 2,300 jobs.
The Fiesta is part of Ford\'s manufacturing shift toward small cars and hybrids.
