GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — A company that wants to farm methane from old wells in the Powder River Basin says the process is safe and plans to discuss regulations with state regulators next month.
Luca Technologies held a meeting with landowners in Gillette this week to explain the chemical mix it uses to stimulate native microbes in old wells to produce methane.
CEO Robert Pfeiffer says most of the ingredients are also part of the human diet. The mix includes organic acids, tracers and vitamins.
The process involves sending the mixture and water into the coal formation of old wells. The mix activates microbes to eat the coal and produce methane.
Luca will present information on its process and discuss regulations with the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on June 8.
