Partnership Sets Bar High

Pump Systems Matter endorses Superior Energy Performance partnership, a collaboration of those seeking to improve the energy intensity of U.S. manufacturing by 25 percent

The board of directors of Pump Systems Matter (PSM), an educational foundation designed to help North American pump users gain competitive business advantages through pump system energy management and performance optimization, recently endorsed the DOE and EPA's Superior Energy Performance partnership. The partnership is a collaboration of industry, government and non-profit organizations seeking to improve the energy intensity of U.S. manufacturing by 25 percent by 2017 through voluntary initiatives. PSM will support this effort by sharing Superior Energy Performance partnership information with its entire roster of sponsors, pump users and engineering consulting firms. Additional program details will be provided to this audience through regular communications posted at www.pumpsystemsmatter.org. For instance, currently available on the website is a 20-minute presentation on "The Push for Energy Efficiency in Pumping Systems" by Douglas Kaempf of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office. In addition, all PSM board members have also been encouraged to adopt the "25 in 10" pledge, which stipulates reducing their organizations' energy intensity by 25 percent or more over the next 10 years. Action items designed to support this initiative include the development of an energy intensity baseline, implementation of a management plan, and designation of an energy manager or leader within those organizations. Since its launch by the Hydraulic Institute in 2006, PSM has dedicated itself to educating pump systems users about energy savings, total cost of ownership issues, maintenance and other significant cost factors involved with operating pumping systems.
