According to NIOSH, working in a hot environment can lower a worker's mental alertness and physical performance. To help offset these adverse effects, Gateway Safety, Cleveland, OH, has developed the Serpent ventilated safety helmet. It features the CoolSense air flow system, which lets heat escape. It also has a soft cushioned brow pad that helps absorb moisture and perspiration. The helmet is made of an extremely durable yet lightweight high-density polyethylene material and weighs just 13.1 oz. The company designed the helmet's snake-head shell to look "ultra-cool" so that workers will want to wear it. It's available with a pin-lock or ratchet suspension that adjusts to fit 6-5/8 to 8-¼ head sizes.
