SME Launches Manufacturing Innovations–Medical Canada Event to Highlight $7.1 Billion Industry
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, June 29, 2010 — While Canada's economy has taken some major hits in the last two and a half years from the ongoing global recession, it has been predicted that the nation will emerge from the current financial crisis "faster than any other country." One industry that could help contribute to this upturn is the nation's more than $7.1 billion medical device manufacturing industry, which is in a growth cycle that is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. And one event that that will highlight this growing field is Manufacturing Innovations–Medical Canada, Nov. 3-4, 2010 at the International Centre, Toronto, Ontario.
Manufacturing Innovations–Medical Canada is organized by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and strategically located in Greater Toronto, the heart of Canada's medical device manufacturing industry and North America's fourth-largest medical community. It is the nation's first event that will connect medical and dental device manufacturers with companies that supply the technology and equipment they need to improve quality, innovation and speed to market all under one roof.
"This is the event for manufacturers looking to enter this industry or grow their current business," says Janine Saperson, event manager. "For attendees, Manufacturing Innovations will provide opportunities to see technologies and solutions from orthopedics to prosthetics to surgical simulation and beyond."
Beyond the diversity of products, Manufacturing Innovations–Medical also was created to meet the specific needs of manufacturers looking for suppliers who can help them meet Health Canada/FDA requirements.
Show hours Nov. 3-4, 2010 will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and both visitors and exhibitors can look forward to the SME Networking Reception, an industry keynote from one of Ontario's leading medical manufacturers as well as an interactive town hall meeting.
Manufacturing Innovations–Medical Canada has the support of leading organizations such as the National Research Council Canada (NIRC), The Regional Municipality of York?Economic Development Sector, The Canadian Technology Triangle, The Health Technology Exchange and MEDEC (Canada's Medical Technologies Companies).
MEDEC CEO Stephen Dibert says, "As the national association created by and for the Canadian medical technology industry, we chose to promote Manufacturing Innovations–Medical Canada to support the transfer of knowledge this event will bring to Ontario. It fits MEDEC's mission to ensure safe access to medical technology developed by our member companies and our members will benefit from the opportunity to network for their business."
Mark C. Tomlinson, SME executive director & general manager adds that MEDEC's endorsement has been crucial to building SME's credibility not only in Ontario, but across the Canadian medical technology community.
"Our goal is to make Manufacturing Innovations–Medical Canada an annual event always presenting new opportunities," he says.
Just how will Manufacturing Innovations create these opportunities?
Tomlinson says, "SME recently conducted a survey of more than 550 Canadian manufacturers. Seventy percent of them said they see growth in the next 12 to 18 months. Fourteen percent say they could spend a minimum of $1 million on manufacturing equipment and manufacturing orders are often a key indicator of an improving economy."
