BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Shaw Group Inc. has been awarded a contract by RTI International to support development of a new synthetic gas technology.
A contract price was not revealed Tuesday.
Baton Rouge-based Shaw Group will conduct a study for a demonstration unit to be built for the Tampa Electric Co.
Synthetic gas can be used as a power generating fuel. Current technologies require warm syngas to be cooled before it is cleaned for use as a fuel. Shaw Group's project involves a technology allowing warm gas to be cleaned — and cutting costs for power generators.
Pilot tests of the project were conducted successfully by RTI and Eastman Chemical. Shaw Group is working on a commercial demonstration unit.
