RUSTON, La - Three students from Louisiana Tech University's College of Engineering and Science have been awarded 2010-2011 academic scholarships from Tau Beta Pi, one of the nation's leading engineering honor societies.
Louisiana Tech students comprise half of the state's six recipients with only seven other schools in the nation having three or more scholars selected. Nationwide, there were 102 students, all previously elected members of Tau Beta Pi, chosen out of a total applicant pool of 389 to receive one of the scholarships from the honor society.
Students selected from Louisiana Tech include Joshua Gidlow, a mechanical engineering major from Lake Charles, Colin Hosli, an electrical engineering major from Harahan, and Louis Reis, a biomedical and chemical engineering major from Ococe, FL.
In addition to their studies, Reis is pursuing undergraduate research that would create a glucose sensor for an artificial pancreas and Hosli is a captain on Louisiana Tech's Shell Eco-Marathon Team.
Each student will receive $2,000 for engineering studies during his or her student year. The scholarships are based on excellent academics, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.
College of Engineering and Science Dean Stan Napper said he is "proud that our current students are continuing a long tradition of excellence in academics and leadership".
