Maintenance Worker Dies at OK Lime Plant

A maintenance worker died when a vacuum rolling grinder he was working on unexpectedly turned on.

MARBLE CITY, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say an employee performing maintenance on a machine at a limeplant has been killed.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says his office received a call about 4 p.m. Monday of an industrial accident at the U.S. Lime & Minerals Inc. in Marble City. Lockhart said Tuesday 61-year-old Wilbur Farris was performing work on a vacuum rolling grinder when the machine turned on for some reason.

He says it took firefighters 2 1/2 hours to safely remove Farris' body.

Lockhart says his office did a preliminary investigation and forwarded the information to the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

A woman answering the phone at the company's Dallas headquarters said she wasn't allowed to talk to the media.
