DUBLIN, Va. (AP) — Volvo Trucks North America will eliminate 500 jobs at its truck manufacturing plant in Pulaski County next year.

Media outlets report that the company announced the layoffs Tuesday, saying it will eliminate its second shift at the Dublin plant in February to adjust production to market demand. The announcement comes after a year of layoffs that have cut about 800 jobs at Volvo's only truck-making plant in the United States.

Officials say the Volvo Trucks North America truck market will be down by 20 percent, or about 60,000 trucks, this year and the company expects it another 10 percent drop next year.

Before the layoffs, the plant employed 2,800 workers, which was up from approximately 1,000 in 2009.
