DALTON, Ga. (AP) — Flooring manufacturer Mohawk Industries has announced it will be adding 200 jobs in Dalton as the company undergoes a $100 million expansion.

Media outlets report that the Calhoun-based company announced Thursday that the jobs will be added to the luxury vinyl tile manufacturing facility in Whitfield County.

According to a release from Governor Nathan Deal's office and Mohawk Industries President Brian Carson, the plant expansion will increase luxury vinyl flooring production during a time when hard surface sales tend to outpace carpet sales. The flooring products will be made for both commercial and residential customers.

Carl Campbell, executive director of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority, says the expansion should be operational in late 2017 or early 2018.
